Club Dead (Sookie Stackhouse, #3) by Charlaine Harris
You know what sucks and what doesn’t suck all at the same time? The whole True Blood franchise. I really liked the show when it first started, but considering the show has to come up with (or expand) a lot of storylines that don’t exist in the books, it’s getting a bit ridiculous. All I could think while reading this book was, “Man, this is SO much better than the third season of the show.” Why? Well, for one, Alcide. Damn. He and Sookie have this crazy chemistry going on, which they sadly didn’t bring to the show. Ok, there was some stuff, but nothing like there is in the book. Such a loss!
Eric is way better in the books, too. More compassionate, funny, and clearly smitten with Sookie (not just physically). Bill is also more of a jerk. True Blood has definitely cleaned him up for an audience, but I think he’s awful in the books. Sookie also seems less annoying and more badass in the books, which, again, seems like a missed opportunity for the show. Rescuing a vampire all on her own? Awesome. In the show, she basically had an army.
So, it sucks that the show isn’t as good, but I’m happy the books are better, since there are (currently) more, so no matter how outrageous True Blood gets, I’ll still be able to enjoy the books.

While the books are a bit more sexually romantic versus the show which I feel like is more sexual carnage, I feel like HBO has done a good job making it have a wider appeal. I know a lot of men who love the show but hate the books.
